GRPD Grappling Seminar Waiver and Release of Liability

This Waiver and Release of Liability must be read carefully and signed prior to participating in the training seminar conducted by the Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD).

I, the signed participant, acknowledge, understand and expressly agree:

1. That I understand that completing this waiver is a requirement to participate in the GRPD Training Seminar held on 2/26/2026 and 2/27/2026 (Seminar).

2. I fully understand and acknowledge that (a) there are risks and dangers associated with participation in martial arts training and activities which could result in bodily injury, partial and/or total disability, contraction of illness and/or disease, paralysis and death, (b) the social, physical, mental, and economic losses and/or damages, which could result from these risks and dangers described above, could be severe, (c) these risks and dangers may be caused by the action, inaction or negligence of me or the action, inaction or negligence of others, and (d) there may be other risks not known or are not reasonably foreseeable at this time.

3. On behalf of myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, successors and assigns, that the City of Grand Rapids (City) and its insurers, employees, officers, directors, and associates, shall not be liable for any damages arising from personal injuries (including death) sustained by me on, or about, the premises, or as a result of participation in the Seminar, regardless of whether such injuries result, in whole or in part, from the negligence of the City.

4. To accept and assume full responsibility for any and all injuries, damages (both economic and non-economic), and losses of any type and hereby fully release and discharge the City, its insurers, employees, officers, directors, and associates, from any and all claims, demands, damages, rights of action or causes of action, present or future, whether the same be known or unknown, anticipated or unanticipated, resulting from or arising out of participation in the Seminar.

5. To indemnify and hold the City harmless against any and all claims, demands, damages, rights of action, or causes of action, of any person or entity, that may arise from injuries or damages sustained by participation in the Seminar.

6. To comply with all posted rules, policies and regulations imposed by the City regarding the use of the facilities and equipment. I agree to conduct myself in a controlled and reasonable manner at all times, and to refrain from using any equipment in a manner inconsistent with its intended design and purpose.

I have read this Waiver and Release of Liability and fully understand its terms. I acknowledge that I am signing this Waiver and Release of Liability freely and voluntarily and intend my signature to be a waiver and complete and unconditional release of all liability due to the negligence of the City of Grand Rapids, its officers, agents, employees or volunteers.
